Open Science for Transformation
Public Knowledge Goods and Social Responsibility
Open Science, Public Science
The new Open Science model defines scientific, humanistic, and technological knowledge generated with public funding as a digital public good, aimed at promoting social well-being, equity, and epistemic justice. It offers an alternative to the commercial model of scholarly communication, which has led to exclusion, high costs, and dependence on opaque metrics. Aligned with national and international frameworks, this model promotes non-commercial open access, multilingualism, the recognition of locally grounded research, and greater openness in the processes of knowledge creation, evaluation, and communication. It also drives a structural transformation by strengthening open infrastructures, rethinking research assessment beyond impact factor metrics, prioritizing the social relevance and impact of research, and positioning science as a key instrument for social transformation and sustainable development at UAEMéx.
